Google’s Newest Algorithm Update

Mobile-Friendly Emphasis

mobile phone and tablet

In April Google will be unleashing their latest algorithm update. (Google’s algorithm is the system they use to determine what sites rank highest.) In this update they will be placing a renewed emphasis on mobile friendliness. Since the majority of internet users are now on mobile devices, having a mobile friendly website is critically important.

Your website must be easily viewed, read, navigated and load quickly on a mobile device to make the cut. And if you break any of Google’s mobile friendly rules, you will start being penalized in April which will lead to lower keyword rankings.

The following are the guidelines Google laid out for things to avoid in order to not be penalized:

  • Blocked JavaScript, CSS and image files
  • Unplayable content
  • Faulty redirects
  • Mobile-only 404s
  • App download interstitials
  • Irrelevant cross-links
  • Slow mobile pages

Some of these items are pretty simple and straightforward, like slow mobile pages. Some however are complex and technical. The bottom line is this: you need a responsive website that can be viewed on any mobile device just as easily as a laptop or desktop. We provide just that for our clients. Every single client receives a mobile friendly, responsive design that allows their content to be found and easily viewed on any device.
